There is something especially magical about stepping out of the Florida heat and, moments later, feeling as though you have left the planet entirely.
During our anniversary weekend, my husband Sebastian and I spent a long, wonderful, and very hot, day exploring EPCOT. By the time we arrived at Space 220 Restaurant, we were ready to slow down, cool off and enjoy a special meal together. What we discovered was more than a welcome break from the park. It became one of the sweetest treats of our anniversary celebration.
Located beside Mission: SPACE, Space 220 begins its adventure before guests even reach the dining room. We boarded a special “space elevator” and watched EPCOT appear to fall away beneath us as we traveled toward the Centauri Space Station, supposedly positioned 220 miles above Earth. It is classic Disney storytelling: imaginative, immersive and detailed enough to make you happily play along.
When the elevator doors opened, the busy energy of the park seemed to disappear. The dining room felt sleek, spacious and wonderfully cool, with enormous panoramic windows offering views of Earth glowing below. Astronauts floated past, spacecraft crossed the horizon and little surprises appeared throughout the cosmic scenery. Even with so much happening outside the windows, the atmosphere remained classy, peaceful and relaxing.
The lunch menu added another layer of fun to the experience, pairing modern American cuisine with playful celestial names. The prix-fixe meal offered entrées such as Galactic Miso Salmon, Interstellar Steak & Frites, Space Pad Thai and the Gemini Burger, followed by carrot cake, gelato or sorbet. Guests could also add appetizers such as Starry Calamari or Blue Moon Cauliflower.
The imaginative cocktail list included the Galaxy Spritz, Illuminations and the M4RG4R1TA, making it easy to add a festive toast to the experience. The cocktails were colorful and creative without feeling gimmicky, fitting perfectly into the restaurant’s sophisticated space-station theme. Every detail helped the meal feel like a true escape—and exactly the refreshing treat we needed after a long, hot afternoon at EPCOT.
What I loved most, however, was simply having that time with Sebastian. In the middle of an active anniversary weekend, Space 220 gave us the chance to sit across from one another, enjoy a wonderful meal and take in the extraordinary view. For a little while, there were no crowds, no heat and nowhere else we needed to be. It was just the two of us, sharing another adventure after 18 years of marriage, this time with planet Earth shining in the distance.
Space 220 was elegant without feeling overly formal, exciting without losing its sense of calm and immersive in a way only Disney can achieve. It transformed a much-needed break during our EPCOT day into a special anniversary memory.
After all these years together, Sebastian and I are still finding new places to explore. Apparently, that now includes outer space.
