There are dinners you enjoy, and then there are dinners you remember long after the last bite. My recent evening at Sushi by Bou – Boca Raton with my dear friend and former teaching colleague, Crista, was one of those unforgettable experiences, an intimate celebration of incredible food, thoughtful hospitality, and the simple joy of slowing down.
Hidden inside Royal Palm Place, Sushi by Bou feels like discovering one of Boca Raton’s best-kept secrets. Inspired by the glamour of the Prohibition era, the cozy space immediately invites you to leave the outside world behind. With only a handful of seats surrounding the sushi counter, every guest becomes part of the performance as talented chefs carefully craft each piece just inches away. It is intimate, elegant, and refreshingly personal. From the moment we arrived, we were welcomed with warmth that made us feel less like customers and more like honored guests. Every course was presented with care, every ingredient explained with genuine enthusiasm, and every detail reflected the passion behind the omakase experience.

The beauty of omakase is surrendering to the chef’s creativity, and Sushi by Bou offers several unforgettable journeys. Guests can choose the 12-course Signature Omakase, indulge in the elevated 17-course Bougie Omakase with its celebratory Kanpai toast, or truly splurge with the luxurious Bou Reserve, complete with premium additions like caviar, foie gras snow, Wagyu, bone marrow, and truffle. Throughout the evening, seasonal seafood, buttery toro, delicate scallops, salmon, eel, and inventive chef creations arrived one exquisite bite at a time, each somehow topping the last.
Of course, if you simply cannot bear to end the experience, Sushi by Bou makes it wonderfully easy to continue the adventure. The Boulicious Extras menu features indulgent additions like the unforgettable Wagyu x Toro, Marrow-Kissed Toro, spicy hand rolls, luxurious Ossetra Caviar Bump Kits, and the over-the-top “Big Mac” bite layered with toro, scallop, Wagyu, and uni. These optional bites transform an already memorable dinner into something truly extraordinary. And yes, save room for the whiskey ganache bouzy ice cream if you’re looking for a sweet finale with a playful twist.

As someone who appreciates a thoughtfully curated drink program, I was equally impressed by the Japanese whisky selection. Whether you gravitate toward the approachable Suntory Toki, the beautifully balanced Hibiki Harmony, or celebrated pours like Yamazaki 12 and Hakushu 12, each offers a wonderful companion to the delicate flavors coming from the sushi bar. The sake list is equally impressive, making it easy to discover a pairing that perfectly complements each course.
What stayed with me most, though, was not just the exceptional food, it was the feeling. Sitting beside Crista, reminiscing about our years in education while watching masterful chefs transform simple ingredients into edible art, reminded me that some of life’s best moments happen around a small table, surrounded by great conversation and people who make you smile.

Sushi by Bou is more than dinner. It is an experience designed to be savored, shared, and remembered. Whether you’re planning a date night, celebrating a milestone, or simply treating yourself because life deserves more moments like these, this intimate Boca Raton gem delivers an evening that feels every bit as special as the food itself.
